Barrelhouse begon als instrumentale band die geformeerd werd door ex-leden van Oscar Benton's begeleiders maar werd al snel aangevuld met Tineke Schoemaker, die net als anderen wel eens een nummer meezong. Sinds 1974 speelt Barrelhouse in ongewijzigde bezetting met Tineke Schoemaker (zang), Johnny LaPorte (gitaar), Guus LaPorte (gitaar), Han van Dam (piano), Bob Dros (drums) en Jan Willem Sligting (bas). De basis is de blues, maar de muziek van Barrelhouse is soms veel breder.
