Earth is een dubbel live-album dat voornamelijk bestaat uit live-versies van nummers uit Youngs rijke verleden: van After The Gold Rush tot songs van het vorig jaar verschenen The Monsanto Years. De opnames werden gemaakt tijdens zijn recente tour met Promise Of The Real, de band van Willie Nelsons zoons Micah en Lukas, en worden afgewisseld met field recordings van geluiden van onder meer insecten, vogels, koeien en paarden. Earth bevat één nog nooit eerder uitgebracht nummer: het veelzeggend getitelde 'I Won't Quit'.
