Poor David's Almanack is de achtste samenwerking tussen David Rawlings en Gillian Welch. Het album is geproduceerd door Ken Scott (o.a. The Beatles, David Bowie) en door Matt Andrews op analoge tape in de legendarische Nashville's Woodland Sound studio's. Gastmuzikanten zijn Willie Watson, Paul Kowert, Brittany Haas, Ketch Secor (Old Crow Medicine Show) en Taylor en Griffin Goldsmith van Dawes.
