Dat Big Big Train inmiddels één van de grotere bands in het progressieve genre is, moge, gezien de vier Progressive Music Awards die de band tot nu toe in de wacht heeft weten te sletpen, wel overduidelijk zijn. Voor dit nieuwe studioalbum Grand Tour liet de progressieve rockband Big Big Train zich inspireren door het 17e en 18e eeuwse gebruik van Grand Tour, een educatieve reis welke ondernomen werd door jonge mannen en vrouwen om hun horizon te verbreden.

Big Big Train drummer, Nick D Virgilio omschrijft het als volgt: "There are songs inspired by the legacy of the Italian Renaissance genius, Leonardo da Vinci; songs telling the story of the rise and fall of Rome; of the beautiful mosaics of Ravenna, and of the shipwreck of a great poet, lost in a tempest off the coast of Italy. Along the way, the story of mankind's greatest ever journey is told."
